The Hollywood Doll A Carl Porter Mystery eBook Sam Stone Reviews
Sam Stone has a good character in Carl Porter. The story for The Hollydoll could be fleshed out to a standard mystery novel length. His buddy in California and the police detective could be developed to give the story depth. The Ending was a nice twist and all the story needed was a good subplot to get it to anpther level. I look forward to hearing from Cart Porter again. It could become a great airplane, summer at the beach or rainy Saturday read.
An excellent example of first person present writing which I typically don't care for. A very professional job with believable dialogue. Just the right length, fast paced with little narrative. The "victim" is far more than a cutout, single dimensional figure, having had a rather interesting lifestyle.
You'll enjoy this book. I guarantee it!
The writing was well enough and the plot could have been better. The ending was terrible. Perhaps other works from this author will produce a better review.
Carl Porter is hired by Joe Kelly to find his son Tom who has gone missing in LA. It Seems that Tom was involved with a young woman who was possibly murdered. Carl leaves Boston for LA to get some answers. The book was well written and moves along quickly. The killer was a total surprise to me. Loved reading about familiar parts of LA and the surrounding community.
Enjoyed this succinct detective story. The city of L.A. becomes a supporting character. Carl Porter is a good addition to the scene. I will definitely read more by this author. I'm sure future books will be 5*
Was surprised to see so much detail and explanations given. There were several possible suspects and no way for me to narrow them down. I did like our hero, his character and personality did him justice. Know I would like to read more of his stories. There's no way you wouldn't like the man and the writing. Two things I really enjoy are clean language and suspense without serial killers, prostitution, children crimes, mostly the heavy duty crimes done in detail. Yuk, ugh.

I enjoyed this Carl Porter novella. It has a straightforward plot, good characterizations, and a nice resolution. Carl is a solid PI who does not flash his technique or pat himself on the back all the time. He meets a wide variety of LA types as he travels from Boston to solve a case for a friend whose son has been accused. I thought the ending made sense and I liked his descriptions of Los Angeles which were faithful, but not overdrawn as so many writers in the genre like to do.
I'm looking forward to reading more by this author.
